Three people in the city have died due to electrocution and still the concerned government departments seem to be treating the issue lightly and are not ready to take the responsibility to fix the open wires.

The callous attitude of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) to repair such loose connections came into focus on Tuesday when in a meeting of several departments to plug holes the senior officials of JMC including the CEO was absent.

Upset that the matter being treated lightly, energy secretary Shailendra Agarwal who was chairing the meeting directed the engineers of JMC to leave the meeting and call their senior officials, said sources.

Miffed by the JMC’s attitude, Agarwal then ended the meeting in half an hour of starting it and went to meet the chief secretary.

Within 10 minutes of this incident JMC CEO Jagroop Singh Yadav who was absent from the meeting was seen rushing to the secretariat and met the officials of energy department.

After a brief meeting of these officials, it was decided that the all the loose electricity cables, wires and pillars on the dividers on the roads will be maintained by the JMC. Coming out of the meeting, Agarwal informed that the JMC has accepted that they will be maintaining the loose wires and pillars and the work will be completed in 10 days.

However, since there are no contractual labours with the JMC to repair and maintain these connections, the labourers will also be provided by the Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (JVVNL).

“In 10 days drive will be started and all loose connection wires and pillars on the roads and on the dividers will be repaired by the JMC, the labourers will be provided by the JVVNL and they will be paid as per central labour rate contract,” said Agarwal.

The meeting was held after complaints against discom were lodged by the family members of the people who died after getting electrocuted and energy minister Dr Jitendra Sigh had also ordered the officials to immediately fix the naked wires.
