Asking Sharma to take down the social media post, the Commission has asked him to give a reply by Thursday
On a spree of taking proactive actions against offenders of the model code of conduct (MCC), the Election Commission on Wednesday issued show cause to several politicians across political parties.
Issuing a show cause to Delhi BJP MLA Om Prakash Sharma, the EC asked him to explain why did he put up two posters featuring him, PM Modi and Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman on the Facebook.
Asking Sharma to take down the social media post, the Commission has asked him to give a reply by Thursday. The posters that were shared on social media on March 1, feature PM Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah, the IAF pilot and Sharma himself who represents Vishwas Nagar seat in Delhi Assembly.
Acting on EC's clearcut instructions, the chief election officer (CEO) of Rajasthan also issued a show cause notice to BJP MP Ramcharan Bohra and Congress leader Sunil Sharma for violating the MCC use of defence personnel images during campaigning.
The show cause refers to posters put up in Jaipur on which images of defence personnel were used. The notice further directs both Bohra and Sharma to reply to the notice within the next three days.
Taking immediate cognisance of a complaint by former Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Laxminarayan Ramdas, the Commission had shot out an advisory on March 9 to all political parties asking them to not to use the images, posters of defence personnel in advertisements during the election campaign -- be it in rallies, print, electronic or social media.
