A special team of Tamil Nadu police on Sunday arrested Sayan and Manoj, who were accused in the break-in at late chief minister J Jayalalithaa's Kodanad estate in the Nilgiri days, in New Delhi, days after the duo linked chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to the case and to the suspicious death of the accused.

Chennai Police Commissioner Viswanathan confirmed the arrest of the two at Dwaraka Sector in New Delhi by a special police team.

The duo was arrested on the complaint filed by AIADMK IT wing office-bearer, Rajan Sathya, with Chennai Central Crime Branch against journalist Mathew Samuel, Sayan and Manoj, over the linking chief minister to the crime.

The report released by journalist, Mathew Samuel spoke of the deaths of five people related to the break-in and it alleged that the burglary was done at the behest of Palaniswami to steal important documents in the possession of Jayalalithaa.

A day after the video was released, Palaniswami on Saturday, rejected allegations made against him by those accused in the Kodanad estate break-in case, saying the police would probe the matter.

Denying his involvement, Palaniswami said, "A police case had been filed in the matter and strong action will be taken against those who released the video." He suspected political motives behind the matter.

On Sunday, DMK president MK Stalin demanded that the Centre should form a special commission to probe allegations made against Palaniswami. "A special commission of inquiry should be formed by the Centre and the investigation should be monitored by the Madras High Court. The President and the Governor should seek an explanation from the CM in this matter," he said at Anna Arivalayam, the party headquarters.

Stalin said the DMK has sought an appointment from Raj Bhavan on Monday to meet Governor Banwarilal Purohit to take up the matter with him. He added that the DMK would not hesitate to take legal options if proper investigations do not begin on the issue.

BJP Tamil Nadu President Tamilisai Sounderarajan said it was the duty of the chief minister to prove his innocence.

In April 2017, the security guard of the Kodanad estate was found dead. It emerged during the probe that Jayalalithaa's ex-driver Kanagaraj and one, Sayan, had allegedly plotted the crime. A total of 10 people had been arrested in the case, with a charge sheet also being filed later. However, Kanagaraj and Sayan's wife and daughter were killed in separate road accidents during the probe, even as another employee of the property was found dead, in a case of suspected suicide.
