Swachh Bharat Abhiyan taken up by the residents of Dev Darshan Cooperative Housing Society, located off Ghodbunder Road has gone for a toss toss as civic officials have dug up the entire stretch, making it unsuitable for any further use.
Since Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) officials have dug up the area without giving any reason, residents from the society are miffed. The members had levelled the ground meticulously and made a badminton court there.
"When it comes to demolishing an illegal structure, TMC officials take their own time and send several notices. But they have dug up the entire ground without giving prior notice," a resident alleged.
Explaining the whole story, Shashikant Kuvardekar, a senior resident from the society said, "Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swachta Abhiyan initiative, we all residents came together and cleared the empty plot, which was full of garbage. The plot is in front of building No7 of our society and belongs to us. We constructed a badminton court for the elderly and youngsters."
He added, "The society members had even taken permission for the same in the annual general meeting."
All the sports lovers and other residents like the idea of empty space and took efforts to level the ground, but it seems that civic officials were not happy and so dug up the ground again, creating a mess for residents.
"As the premises belong to us, we don't expect TMC to intervene. And now after digging up the ground, they refuse to give us any explanation," added Kuvardekar. When they enquired about the problem with the concerned department, the officials said they are not aware of the issue.
KD Nipurte, deputy municipal commissioner from the encroachment department said, "I am not aware about this, but will inquire about it with the department and concerned officials. I will ensure that justice is meted out to the residents if they have done nothing illegal."
