A nephew of Samajwadi Party MLA from Mumbai, Abu Azmi, has been sent to 10 days' police custody by a Delhi court for his alleged involvement in smuggling drugs overseas.

Abu Aslam Qasim Azmi alias Aslam, 43, was produced before Additional Sessions Judge Siddharth Sharma, who sent him to the custody of special cell of Delhi Police after the agency claimed that he was required for custodial interrogation.

Police said that Aslam was required to be confronted with other persons arrested in the case to unearth the smuggling racket.

The agency also said that more persons were expected to the apprehended in the case.

Aslam was arrested from Mumbai on June 6 and five kg of the drug 'Ice', worth Rs 5 crore in the international market, was also seized from them.

According to police, the kingpin of the gang Kailash Rajput, was currently settled in Dubai and controls the drug trade from there.
