‘Dope test will send right message in war against drugs’, says Capt Amarinder Singh

Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has said that even though the dope test is not a solution, it will send a message among the people against drug abuse. People have realised how drugs are ruining the young generation and they are start to beating drugs smugglers who sell drug in the village.

He does not want people to take the law in their hands but wants villagers to catch them and hold them over to the police. He was taking to Zee Media during the time of book release ceremony of former union minister Jairam Ramesh in Chandigarh

On question dope test for every politician, he said that taking a dope test is a personal decision of every one and there is no harm in going for the test.

When asked about the involvement of state police in drugs trade, Capt Amarinder said that’s why government has decided on dope test for all employees including police administration. He also said dope test is must for all employees and will be done in two parts. First before a person is recruited and then at the time of promotion.

He also disclosed that Punjab government is going to recruit 6,000 new policemen soon and they will join the police only when their dope test reports are negative.

On the issue of former SSP Moga, Rajjeet Singh, the Punjab Chief Minister said that action against him will be taken against him in cases which have come into limelight. He also said that there was no discussion regarding any action taken against him in the last cabinet meeting.

But when state cabinet meeting was held on war on drugs on July 2, cabinet minister Tripat Rajindeer Singh Bajwa had told the media said that everyone involved in drugs either he is constable or SSP and will be dismissed from the service under the rule of IPC 311. He also said that the Punjab government has sought a report from the home secretary regarding many officials, including the SSP Moga.

On Friday, Captain Amarinder Singh urged artistes, singers, and filmmakers to play a proactive role in complementing the state government’s efforts to combat the drug menace.

Interacting with noted Punjabi comedians Jaswinder Bhalla, Karamjit Anmol and Bal Mukund Sharma, the Chief Minister asked them to use their popularity with people to bring about the much-needed change on this count.

On the other hand, opposition MLA Kanwar Sandhu declared the dope test as a ‘jumla’ of the Congress Party. He claimed that is a political stunt of the government for diverting the attention from the real issues.
