In a shocking incident, a newborn was eaten by a pack of dogs in the Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. The police have recovered the remains of the infant and sent them for post-mortem.

The incident took place in Ram Nagar of Gulawathi, Bulandshahr. Locals who first noticed the gory happening said when they tried to shoo the dogs away, the animals got aggressive and tried to attack them as well. Panic has now spread in the area because of the aggressive dogs.

Man Singh Chauhan, a local, said: "Some residents tried to rescue the child but the dogs attacked them." The locals then immediately called the police and pelted stones at the dogs, who still did not flee.

SHO Bupender Singh, the in-charge at the Gulawathi police station, said: "As soon as we received the call, we dispatched a police team to the spot. Only a part of the infant's body could be recovered. Prima facie it appears that the child was a newborn. Nobody has come forward to claim the body till now."

Cops are now suspecting that the infant was dumped deliberately.

"We have sent the body for post-mortem and lodged an FIR under section 314 (death caused by act done with intent to cause miscarriage) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)," Singh added.
