The ED said Choksi should mention the exact date of his intended return.
The Enforcement Directorate, which is investigating the Punjab National Bank fraud case, on Saturday asked a Mumbai court to direct fugitive and absconder Mehul Choksi to file an affidavit showing his intentions to return to India at the earliest preferably within a month from the date of order.
The ED said Choksi should mention the exact date of his intended return.
This has come after days after fugitive and absconder Mehul Choksi said that he was willing to co-operate in the investigation and would travel to India as soon as he will be medically fit to travel.
Enforcement Directorate in its affidavit in a Mumbai court said, "He (Mehul Choksi) never cooperated in the investigation. A non-bailable warrant was issued against him. A Red Notice was also issued by the Interpol. Still has refused to return, he is, therefore, a fugitive and an absconder."
Wanted in India in Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud case along with diamantaire Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi earlier on Monday said that he left the country not to flee but for medical treatment.
Choksi said he had submitted an affidavit in the High Court of Judicature at Bombay, with details of his diseases and said he left the country not to flee but for medical treatment.
Mehul Choksi in his affidavit had also stated, "I am currently residing in Antigua and willing to co-operate in the investigation. If the court may deem it fit, it may direct the investigating officer to travel to Antigua."
Choksi further added, "I am willing to appear before a special court and before investigating officer through video conferencing."
Diamantaire and Gitanjali Gems promoter Mehul Choksi previously termed all the allegations leveled against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as false and baseless.
