Less than a week after Bengaluru's Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) Roopa D Moudgil alleged special treatment in jail to AIADMK (Amma) leader VK Sasikala, she has been been transferred to Traffic department.

DIG Roopa had alleged that the AIADMK chief was getting special facilities, including an exclusive kitchen to cook food for her, in complete violation of jail rules.

The state government in a notification today said that N S Megharikh, Additional Director General of Police, Anti- Corruption Bureau, has been transferred with immediate effect and posted as Additional DGP, Prisons, in place of Rao.

It also said that Roopa has been posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police and Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety here.

However, the notification does not specify the post Rao has been been transferred to and who will replace Roopa.

"Surprised. I think this government (Karnataka) wants to protect illegal activities," said former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy.

The report had said that Sasikala paid Rs 2 crore to jail officials to get special treatment, adding that Karnataka Director General of Prisons (DGP) Satyanarayana Rao could be one of the top officials who were paid money.

"It (special kitchen) is said to be continuing despite you being aware of it. It is being rumoured that 2 crores bribe has been given for this and allegations of your involvement is unfortunate... So guilty officers should be punished", DIG Roopa had said in communication to Rao.

However, Rao rubbished the charge against him by Roopa, terming it "absolutely false, baseless and wild". He said he would take legal recourse against his junior.

The Karnataka government has also served a notice on a top police officer for going to the media on her controversial report

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had said she could have approached any of her superiors about her charges against senior officials and that her allegations before the mainstream and social media has brought embarrassment to the police department.
