The South-East district police arrested a wanted criminal Akbar alias Danish after a brief encounter near Nehru Place metro station, on Monday.

The incident took place around 3:00 am, wherein around 13 rounds were fired. However, his accomplice Asif managed to escape.

Acting on a tip off that the duo would be visiting the area on a bullet motorcycle, the police had erected barricades on the Nehru Place main road.

A bullet motorcycle was seen approaching the barricade and then it suddenly took a detour and started speeding. The police party chased them and around 13 rounds of firing was exchanged, police said.

Two policemen who were fired at escaped unhurt due to the bullet proof gear. While the police officials were successful in nabbing Akbar, his associate Asif ran away from the location. 

"A reward of Rs 25,000 was declared on him after a shootout case in Pul Prahaladpur area where he had fired on police officials earlier. He is wanted in several cases of robbery, theft, snatching and attempt to murder. A case has been registered and further investigations are underway," said DCP, South- East, Romil Baaniya.
