"I spoke to Kejriwalji three days ago and asked about the Rs 2,000 crore that Delhi government is obliged to give to the municipal corporations. He had no answer. If a person doesn't get oxygen how will he live. Right now, our oxygen is being cut," North Delhi Mayor Ravinder Gupta said. The three new mayors, who recently won the mayoral elections held last month, were speaking at a felicitation ceremony organised by NGO Delhi Study Group.
Enumerating the plans on developing East Delhi on the lines of a smart city, its Mayor Harsh Malhotra said plans are for a solid-waste management in the area that will produce electricity and is scheduled to go on a trial run in June. "Arvind Kejriwal's wrong politics says that corporation is not doing anything in the reform sector. I want to say that he only talks about a wrong kind of politics," Malhotra alleged.
"If we can make electricity from waste, the attitude of Delhi government is such that they are not ready to believe that the corporation is doing something good. They have the habit of lying and they are constantly doing it too." South Delhi Mayor Subhash Arya also put forth his views on situation faced by the cash-strapped BJP-led corporations.
"All the three corporations are serving the citizens very well since the BJP has been in power. In the past 14 years, we have not introduced any new tax nor increased rate of any old one" "During (Chief Minister) Sheila Dikshit's time, we used to get 70 per cent of the grant which was later reduced to 50 per cent. This government has reduced it even further, the moment it came to power. The amount that was suppose to come from the government, they (AAP govt) have told us to ask from the Centre," Arya said.
