The Congress Party staged a protest at the Jantar Mantar here on Thursday against Union Human Resources and Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani for providing false information about her educational qualification to the Election Commission of India.

"BJP should take action. Smriti Irani is the education minister and when Delhi University will conduct enquiry on her degree, then how can we be assured that the investigation will not be biased. That is why she must resign and that is our only demand," Congress leader Ajay Maken told ANI.

"She should resign morally, instead of getting into legal fight," Congress leader Kiran Walia said.

A Delhi court yesterday took cognizance of a complaint filed against the latter for allegedly giving false information about her educational qualification.

The trial court has fixed August 28 as the next date for recording pre-summoning evidence in the complaint filed against Irani.
