Debashish was suffering from depression claims mother of man arrested for slapping MP Abhishek Banerjee

Mother of Debasish Acharya, who has been arrested for slapping MP Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of Mamata Banerjee, On Tuesday claimed that her son was suffering from depression and was under treatment. "My son is suffering from depression and was undergoing treatment," his mother told a private TV channel.

She said that neither Debasish, nor her family was associated with any political party, but she was a fan of the chief minister. Condemning the incident, she said that slapping an MP could not be supported in any way.

Debasish, charged with with attempt to murder besides other charges, was arrested in the hospital where he was being treated for multiple head wounds and other wounds on his body suffered when he was thrashed by Trinamool Congress supporters after his infamous slap.

His mother said that she wanted to meet both the chief minister and her nephew and plead for his early release from the charges brought against him. She said she had gone to the hospital on Tuesday to meet her son.
