Anti-corruption activist Anjali Damania registered a complaint with the police on Saturday, claiming that she has been receiving threat calls from Pakistan, and this may brew trouble for former revenue minister and veteran BJP leader Eknath Khadse. Damania has been locked in a legal battle with Khadse for long and believes that the number which she’s getting the calls from belongs to notorious gangster Dawood Ibrahim. Damania claimed that the caller told her to withdraw her case against Khadse.

Khadse, who is currently in New Delhi to attend BJP’s two-day meet, told DNA, “The Central Investigation Agency should immediately inquire and find out the truth.” Undeterred by fresh allegations against him, Khadse said probe by a central agency is required as ‘the don’ has been named in the complaint.

“We have registered a case against an unknown person and have taken the call recording in our custody. We are checking call data records and have informed other agencies for technical assistance,” said Kailaschandra B Avahad, senior police inspector, Vakola Police Station.

Today’s development comes at a time when Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is expected to expand his cabinet and the followers of Khadse, who had resigned last year over corruption charges, are pressing for his rehabilitation.
This is not the first time that Khadse has been targeted for his alleged links with the underworld.
