In a major victory for investigative agencies, fugitive gangster and 1993 Mumbai attacks mastermind Dawood Ibrahim's close aide Farooq Takla has been arrested after he was deported from Dubai.

Farooq Takla was brought to Mumbai in Air India flight AI 996 which landed in Mumbai around 5:30 am, said reports.

Takla was deported to India after he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials in Dubai.

He will be produced before TADA (Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act) court in Mumbai.

"Today, we have arrested Mustak Mohd Miya alias Farook Takla in 1993 Bombay Blast case. He will be produced before the designated court," said CBI in a statement.

He had fled from India after 1993 blasts in Mumbai. Takla is a co-accused in the 1993 blasts case along with Dawood and several of his close aides.

A Red Corner Notice was issued against him in 1995. On March 12, 1993, 12 co-ordinated blasts rocked Mumbai, claiming 257 lives and injuring over 700.

Senior Advocate Ujjwal Nikam said, "This is a huge success. He was involved in 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts the links of which can be traced back to Dubai. This is a big blow to D-Gang."

In February this year, Thane police claimed that Dawood Ibrahim has handed over the reins of the D-company to his brother Iqbal Kaskar, who was arrested recently.

According to the police, Dawood conveyed this to him in Thane central jail via a message that was sent to Kaskar’s son and wife, who came to visit him from Dubai on December  27.

Last year, reports said that Dawood was suffering from bouts of depression after his third child — and only son - Moin Nawaz D. Kaskar, 31, who has turned his back on the "family business" is a devout Muslim who has chosen to become a 'maulana', or a cleric-cum-religious teacher.

Earlier, Iqbal Kaskar had revealed that Dawood is in excellent health and living in Karachi under the protective eyes of the Pakistani agencies, dismissing all speculation on his physical well-being that keeps floating occasionally.
