Dadri lynching: Alleged suspect commits suicide; family accuses police of harassment

In another development which could further escalate tension in Dadri's Bisara village, a youth in his 20s allegedly committed suicide late morning on Tuesday. Moments after the death, his family alleged that the police were harassing the youth saying that he was part of the mob that killed Mohammad Akhlaq. The youth identified as Jai Prakash was a labourer.

Police however have not spoken about the incident yet.

According to his family, the youth was a daily labourer. dna managed to visit the Bisara village which has been largely out of bounds for the media after locals attacked journalists accusing them of biased reporting in favour of Muslims. This reporter was at the residence of the deceased youth's family when a team of police official arrived at the spot. Soon after agitated locals warned this reporter to leave the village.

The police have refused to confirm the incident. However, according to the family, the youth had committed suicide by consuming poison. "The police kept on telling him that his name was in the list of people who had attacked Akhlaq," said a resident.

Women of the village also came out of the village for the first time in three days and urged journalists to cover the incident. The women had days ago assaulted media personnel and chased away TV crews out of the village alleging biased reporting about the death of Mohammad Akhlaq who was killed by a mob on suspicion that he had eaten beef.
