Reacting strongly to Union Minister for Skill Development Ananth Kumar Hegde's controversial comments regarding the Constitution, the Congress party has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence on the issue.

Speaking at a public function in Koppal district of Karnataka, Hegde had said, "Some people say the Constitution says we are secular and we must accept it. We will respect the Constitution, but the Constitution has changed several times and it will change in the future too. We are here to change the Constitution and we'll change it."

Hegde reportedly also mocked the word secular, which was included in the Constitution through 42nd amendment. "Those who, without knowing about their parental blood, call themselves secular, they don't have their own identity...They don't know about their parentage, but they are intellectuals," he said.

Lashing out at Hegde, Congress spokesperson Gaurav Gogoi said that changing the basic structure of the Constitution and imposing hate-filled ideology on India was the sole agenda of the BJP and RSS.
The Congress is expected to raise the issue in Parliament on Wednesday.

"His remarks have not only denigrated and demolished the values, principles and the soul of the Constitution, but has also exposed their false love for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar which they keep propagating to win votes...Any maleficence attempt to modify this by BJP-RSS will be fought by the Congress party with all its might," he said.

The Congress also questioned Minister of State for Home Hansraj Ahir's statement of equating senior doctors of a government hospital in Nagpur with Naxals.

Miffed at the absence senior doctors during inauguration of a medical store, Ahir reportedly said, "What do the Naxals want? They don't want democracy... So these people (the absent doctors) don't want democracy, then they should join the Naxals. Why are you here? Then (once you join the Naxals) we will pump you with bullets, why you are dispensing pills here?"

Calling it an outright insult to the medical profession, Gogoi said it is in the nature of BJP leaders to systematically insulting professional and communities, as PM Modi had also called the chartered accountant Chor and then medical fraternity as Bazaroo and describing farmers as cowards.

Gogoi also lashed out at UP cabinet minister, Prakash Rajbhar saying he recently insulted Dalits and the poor when he said they sell their votes for alcohol and chicken and questioned PM Modi's "Good Governance" model by pointing out the inclusion of Bachubhai Kapad, named in three serious criminal cases including one relating to the Arms Act, as minister in the Rupani government that was attended by him.
