Both the Congress and the NCP have criticised Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for his statement on creation of a separate Vidarbha state. The Congress accused the BJP of having double standards on all issues, while NCP challenged the Shiv Sena to bring the resolution for a united Maharashtra in the state assembly.

What had CM said?

Chief Minister Fadnavis while replying to a question on creating separate Vidarbha during a program at New Delhi on Saturday had said that BJP would take decision on it at an appropriate time. Saying this Fadnavis had reiterated BJP's stand on smaller states and had said, "BJP has always been in favour of creating smaller states."

What is Congress's argument?

Alleging that the BJP never takes a firm stand on any issue, former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said, "Be it the local body tax or banning tolls, they promised everything before the elections, but are now turning their back on all these issues. As far as Saturday's statement on Vidarbha by the CM is concerned, he has only reiterated BJP's national policy on smaller states but has told nothing categorical about it."

Chavan said while the CM has said that a decision would be taken at an appropriate time, no one knows when the time will come. "Nor anyone knows whether the CM is in favour or against a separate Vidarbha."

How has NCP reacted to issue?

NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said that the BJP never follows what it says. He accused the NCP of taking one stand while approaching the electorate and taking another after coming to power. He said that the Sena, which was criticising BJP every other day before joining the government, won't speak anything now. "It is the same Sena that had brought a resolution for a united Maharashtra, including Belgaum and Karwar. Now NCP wants to see whether Sena will bring such a resolution or toe the BJP line."

What was Sena's response?

DNA tried to get a reaction from Sena leader Sanjay Raut but he did not respond to phone calls. Raut also did to reply to an SMS, which mentioned that dna wanted his reaction on Fadnavis's statement on Vidarbha.
