Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Nitin Patel said that the Congress was caught in its own trap that they had set up for the Patel community in Gujarat in the name of reservation.

He said that the Congress did not offer the PAAS a formula, but just promised to form a commission that the BJP had already done.

Patel was addressing a press conference in Ahmedabad on the completion of the first day of the party's parliamentary board meeting. He said, "Their party in-charge Ashok Gehlot said that they put an offer before PAAS and the ball was in the court of agitation group. That shows that they could not cater to the demand of the Patel community for reservation. One of my friend in Congress informed me that PAAS was offered the commission for EBC and 10 per cent separate reservation for EBC above the total reserved quota of 50 per cent. This shows that Congress has fallen in its own trap."

"Congress also knew from the very beginning that it was not possible to give reservation beyond 50 per cent and that is why they offered the same formula to Patel community that we had proposed, and PAAS leaders including Hardik Patel did not accept. Now PAAS and Hardik Patel should reveal what they were offered by Congress. Was it a quota or something else that could benefit them," added Patel.

Taking a dig at the Hardik Patel-led PAAS, he said that they had gone to meet Congress leaders with crackers, which they would burst if Congress gave them reservation but returned empty handed. He also cast aspersions on Hardik's silence over the conclusion of the meeting and alleged that the entire exercise was aimed at fooling the community.
