Congress leader Shobha Ojha on Wednesday criticized the West Bengal Government for not dealing sternly with kangaroo courts, which she alleged are always giving judgments against women. Ojha demanded the arrest of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, who is being blamed by the teenage girl's uncle for her death.

"See the way these kangaroo courts are functioning and the way they are giving their judgments against women……. These cases are specifically rampant in West Bengal now as they are coming into the limelight. The state government should take stern steps to deal with these kinds of atrocities against women. It is shameful that the kangaroo court was being headed by a TMC councilor. The councilor should be arrested at the earliest and his membership should be cancelled. Action should be taken against the kangaroo courts else our women and children will continue to be the victims of such courts."

The uncle of a teenage girl, whose body was found near the railway tracks, earlier claimed that his niece was raped and killed, thereby trashing reports about her committing suicide. He indirectly held members of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) responsible for the incident. "My brother-in-law was beaten up and my niece protested. They threatened her. If she committed suicide, why was she without clothes? I think they raped and then killed her and left her near the tracks," said Moloy Roy the deceased girl's uncle.

Roy further said that the girl had protested against the village kangaroo court's decision that her father should be punished for not paying for a power tiller that he had rented. "When she tried to stop the villagers from thrashing her father, the 'court' allegedly turned on her. She vanished from the kangaroo court after the incident and nobody could trace her, later her body was found near the tracks," he added. The deceased girl's uncle stated that a complaint has not been lodged with the police yet and added that a TMC leader Gobinda Bhowmick had threatened his niece.
