Congress leader K C Rama Murthy on Monday demanded in the Rajya Sabha that the government immediately include Hampi and its temple complexes located in Karnataka in the must-see list of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Murthy said the union minister concerned has said Hampi was overlooked in the list.

However, it is not just an overlook, it is neglect. "I demand GoI immediately include Hampi in the must-see list without further delay."

The must-see list contains names of monuments and important sites in the country which are exceptional in terms of art and architecture, planning and design and engineering marvel.

"I am sure no one in this House will disagree with me that Hampi in Karnataka qualifies beyond this description. I am shocked how ASI left out Hampi from the list when the UNESCO itself has recognised it as a world heritage site," he added.
