Addressing the press for the first time after Karnataka fiasco, BJP President Amit Shah attacked both Congress and JD(S) dubbing their alliance as unholy. BJP failed to prove majority in Karnataka Assembly despite emerging as the single largest party and Siddaramaiah had to resign from CM post after 55 hours. JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy will be taking oath as CM tomorrow.

Asserting that the mandate in Karnataka Assembly polls was against the Congress, BJP president Amit Shah today said the party has found a new way of portraying defeat as its victory.

Shah also asked the Congress to explain to the people of Karnataka why they were celebrating even when most of their ministers had lost election. "Only Congress and JD(S) are celebrating, people of Karnataka are not (celebrating)," he told reporters. The mandate given by people of Karnataka was against the Congress. There was no confusion about it, he said.

"If we had not staked claim to form government, it would have been against the mandate of Karnataka people," he asserted Congress has found a new way of portraying defeat as its victory, Shah said, taking a swipe at the rival party, and added that he hopes this new definition of victory continues till 2019 as it will benefit the BJP. "Congress is now starting to have faith in constitutional bodies like Supreme Court, Election Commission and they even like EVMs," Shah said and voiced hope that it continues even when the Congress loses and is unable to form the government, taunting the party which has been critical of the the poll panel and the apex court's functioning in recent times.

He also claimed that the Congress lawyer lied in the Supreme Court that BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa had sought seven days time from the Governor to prove majority in the House.

Continuing his tirade against Congress-JD(S), BJP President called the alliance unholy. Speculating on the future of the alliance, Amit Shah said, " No one will be the dominating party. Both of them have conned people. They will later come to know the pros and cons of this unholy alliance. Domination doesn't come with power but with the love of people".

Amit Shah also alluded to opposition's allegations that BJP tried to indulge in horse trading to get majority in Karnataka. Countering the allegation, Amit Shah said, "  Humpe horse trading ka aarop lagaya hai, lekin Congress ne poora ka poora astabal (stable) bech khaya hai. We had the right, so we claimed for it (to form the govt)". He said that Congress has sold the entire stable while BJP is accused of buying and selling horses. He questioned the need of MLAs being 'locked up in five-star hotels'.

Responding to Rahul Gandhi's remark that democracy has been saved in Karnataka, Amit Shah said, " Congress party with a history of dismissing more then 50 governments by abusing Article 356 has no moral right to preach us on democracy." Regarding Congress repeatedly citing examples of Goa and Manipur, Amit Shah said, " In Goa and Manipur, the Congress despite being the single largest party had not staked claims, so the Governor invited us ".
