The eighth annual convention of the Hospitality Purchasing Managers Forum kicked off on Friday in Varanasi. The event, which was backed by the Ministry of Tourism for being held in the ancient city, saw the attendance of over 250 delegates.

The HPMF, a consortium of purchasing managers from the hospitality industry representing star hotels, catering companies, stand-alone restaurant chains and airlines, was conceived in 2010. Today, the organisation has over 2100 members from the hospitality fraternity.

In India, it has a nationwide presence with members from Delhi, Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Pondicherry, Cochin, Goa, Pune, Indore, Mumbai, Nasik, Bhopal, Raipur, and Kolkata.

Nitin Nagrale, the founder and general secretary of the trade body said that the body was formed to create a better purchasing environment.

He said that the theme of the function this year is 'Swach, Saksham, Samruddhi', to ensure that cleanliness, competence and cooperation becomes the hallmark of the trade body.

"As a trade body, we hope to develop knowledge and expertise of hospitality purchasing professionals through education, guidance and use of latest techniques. Through this forum, we want to set up best practices in the industry and channelise the wealth of expertise in the areas of logistics, purchase and supply chain management to ensure overall long term benefits for hospitality industry," Nagrale said.

He said that the convention will launch the operations of Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Madhya Pradesh chapters domestically.

In addition,chapters will also be launched in Africa, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
