Highlighting the need for cleanliness to ensure beauty and progress of a place, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today launched the "Swachh Bharat" campaign by wielding a broom in the city.

"God resides only in those areas which are clean and cleanliness is essential for ensuring beauty, happiness and progress of an area," Chouhan said launching the drive at Chhola Dusshera Maidan, Navjeevan Colony, where widows of Bhopal gas tragedy victims were rehabilitated, and Shivnagar areas.

"By launching the Swachh Bharat campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown the path of healthy and progressive India," Chouhan said.

"If we want to change India, we have to clean the country and Madhya Pradesh, and the initiative in this regard should begin from home only," he said.

He urged people to devote at least two hours in a week towards cleanliness and also administered an oath in this regard to the people, and government officials and employees.

Bhopal Mayor Krishna Gaur read out the message of the Prime Minister on the occasion.

Similar programmes were held in various Central and state government departments, schools, colleges here and also other cities, towns and villages of the state.
