Class XI student shoots classmate in classroom

A Class XI student of the of Dehradun Public school in the Govindpuram area of Ghaziabad district on Wednesday shot at a student for bashing up his younger brother. The student was rushed to a hospital, where his condition is stated to be critical.

On Tuesday, Farmaan Mohammad (16) and three of his friends had attacked classmate Hitesh Bhati (16) with belts during lunch time. "Farmaan was angry because Bhati had allegedly beaten up his younger brother on Tuesday. He then brought an unlicensed country-made weapon and attacked Bhati with belts in the classroom and then he (Farmaan) fired at Bhati," said Deepak Kumar, SSP, Ghaziabad.

Teachers rushed to the classroom and saw Bhati lying in a pool of blood on the floor.

"Teachers saw Mohammad with a gun in his hand, trying to escape. The teachers got hold of him but his three friends managed to flee," he added.

A PCR call was made from the school around 11:25 am and Bhati was rushed to a nearby hospital. His parents have been informed.

While Mohammad has been arrested, his three associates remain at large. They have been identified as Dinesh, Mohnish and Aakash Chaudhary.
