Class 10 Ghaziabad girl overcomes great personal tragedy, scores 92.4% marks

Exams bring sleepless nights for students but nothing could have gone worse and unfortunate with Tiya Singh, who on the eve of her class 10 board exam, lost her father and younger brother in a road accident.

The incident took place around 9:30 pm in Ghaziabad's Shastri Nagar area when Tiya Singh's father and brother were hit by a speeding truck who had gone to bring dinner from a local restaurant.

It was Tiya's first exam eve when she lost her father, brother which she passed with grief and trauma.

However, even after such a tough challenge, Tiya attempted her exam the next day and when the results were out, she scored 92.4%. 

Tiya mother Reena Sagar praised her daughter who showed courage, maintained calm, and coped up with the situation. 

Reena Sagar shared how her daughter was awake the entire night, in the hospital when she went to see her critically injured brother, and also tried to console her. 

Despite challenges, Tiya went for her exam, and later performed last rites of her father, brother. Her mother further added that she was overwhelmed the way her daughter handled the situation during that grief and trauma. 

Reena Sagar said her father had told her before the previous night that only two years of her school education had left so she should secure good marks and further study to become a doctor. 

Speaking on the incident, Tiya's uncle said that his brother and nephew were returning, who had gone to take dinner, when a speeding truck hit them. His brother died on the spot while his nephew died an hour later. Tiya uncle informed that she saw bodies of both, and face the situation with courage. 

Tiya uncle also mentioned that the truck driver is yet to be arrested. 

Tiya, who studies in Brightland School in Govindpuram, got 99 in English, 95 in social studies, 90 in Hindi and 89 in both maths and science. 

Her father was running a crockery shop and the family used to reside in Avantika. Tiya's father wanted her to become a doctor since many in his family were doctor or pursuing medical studies. 

Speaking on the most unfortunate incident of her life, Tiya said her father would have been the happiest person to know about her results. She remembered her brother who used to fight with her a lot but loved him. 

Tiya said she could have scored better if this incident had not taken place. 

Director of the school where Tiya studies, Balvin Khandelwal praised Tiya and also offered a primary teacher's job to her Tiya's mother. 

Praising Tiya, her school director Khandelwal said that she is a brilliant girl and opted for physics, chemistry, and biology for class 11 since she wanted to become a doctor. 

Khandelwal said in order to help Tiya, the shcool has waved off her fee.
