Pakistan army resorted to unprovoked firing on the Indian forward positions and civilian areas along the Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday, killing a civilian porter and injuring a teenage girl in Kamalkot area in the Uri sector of North Kashmir's Baramulla district.

The incident occurred at 11.30am when Pakistan troops fired indiscriminately on the Indian forward positions in the Kamalkote area of the Uri Sector.

"Mohammad Abbas, a 22-year-old civilian porter from Kamalkot, who was employed with Army in the Uri Sector, lost his life in an unprovoked firing by Pakistan. An 18-year-old girl, Nasreena Bano, from Marian village near Line of Control (LoC), was also injured in the Pakistani firing," said an army spokesman at Srinagar.

Indian army immediately swung into action and retaliated strongly. The heavy exchange of fire continued for more than two hours in the area. Sources said intermittent firing was continuing in the area.

The fresh ceasefire violations comes three days after the Pakistan army upped the ante on the eve of Diwali and shelled Indian forward positions and civilians areas, leaving more than eight people, including a two-year-old girl, injured along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch sectors on Wednesday.

The firing also comes nine days after the Pakistan army fired indiscriminately on Indian forward positions, killing an army jawan and a civilian porter, besides injuring five others in the Kirshna Ghati sector in Poonch district.
On October 2, two civilians were killed in firing.
