Chhattisgarh: 4 policemen martyred, 11 injured in gun-battle with Naxals

In another case of maoist violence, four police personnel, including two sub-inspectors, were killed and eleven others injured in a gun-fight  in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district today, according to reports. 

The encounter took place in the forests of Irpanar village in Abhujmad area when a police team was out on anti- Naxal  sweeping operation, Special Director General of Police (anti- Naxal operations) D M Awasthi told PTI. 

"Two sub-inspectors and as many constables, belonging to DRG (District Reserve Guard of Police) lost their lives and seven other personnel sustained injuries in the incident," he said.

The team, comprising personnel from DRG and the Special Task Force (STF) of police, was cordoning off Irpanar forests when the exchange of fire broke out, he said. Soon after getting information about the encounter, reinforcement was rushed to the spot, Awasthi said, adding that the injured were being airlifted to Raipur for treatment.

According to Zee Media inputs, IG has said that 11 people are injured in the gunfight.  Helicopter has left from Jagdalpur to bring the bodies of the martyrs. The injured ones are being sent to the hospital. Some of the injured will be sent to Raipur. Immediately after this incident, IG Vivekananda reached Narayanpur. Gun battle between the security forces and naxals even raged on during the afternoon.
