Chandrayaan-2's Vikram lander, which lost contact with the Indian Space Research Organisation at 2.1 km above the Moon's surface, is intact as a "single piece", according to sources in the space agency.
"The lander stands in a tilted position," said a source. While its exact condition is yet to be ascertained, ISRO has been making efforts to talk with Vikram. It did not land in the position, which was planned by the space agency, said sources.
The space agency has 12 more days to establish links with the lander whose battery has an expected life of 14 days.
The latest update on the Moon mission has rekindled hopes of resuming communication between ISRO and the lander.
Earlier, ISRO chief K Sivan said that they had found Vikram's location. "The orbiter has clicked a thermal image of the lander. But there is no communication yet. We are trying to have contact."
