CET Paper scam: Ex-chairman of JK exam board sentenced to five years in jail, fined Rs one crore

Law has finally caught up with the former chairman of Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) Mushtaq Ahmad Peer who was convicted in 2013 exam paper scam and sentenced to five years of imprisonment and fined Rs one crore by the court of Special Judge (anti-corruption).

Law has finally caught up with the former chairman of Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) Mushtaq Ahmad Peer who was convicted in 2013 exam paper scam and sentenced to five years of imprisonment and fined Rs one crore by the court of Special Judge (anti-corruption).

The case dates back to  September 2013 when Mushtaq Ahmad Peer was the Chairman of  BOPEE. had Police said Peer in league with Farooq Ahmad Yatoo fraudulently and dishonestly leaked the question papers of Combined Entrance Test (CET) session 2013 to various beneficiaries against huge monetary considerations prior to the conduct of the examination.

“With the result the beneficiaries managed their selection among top rankers and thereby marred the career prospects of gullible students. The investigation of the case was conducted by SIT constituted by Crime Branch, which was headed by Mir Aftab Alam, then Additional superintendent of police”, said a police spokesman.

Police said on the strength of evidence, oral and documentary, the investigation of the case was concluded as proved against as many as 60 persons including nine Juveniles.

“Charge sheet against 50 accused persons was produced before the Court of Special  Judge(Anti Corruption), Srinagar and Charge sheet against nine Juveniles  was produced in February 2014 in the Juvenile Court”, he said

The Court while holding the accused guilty awarded rigorous imprisonment of five years with fine of Rs 1.00 Crore to Peer.  “Another accused Sajad Ahmad was awarded rigorous imprisonment of five years with fine of Rs 50 lakhs. Other convicted accused have been awarded with rigorous imprisonment ranging from three years to five years and fine ranging between Rs five lakhs to Rs 25 lakhs”, said the police spokesman.
