The Central government is likely to take action against five IPS officers for partaking in the dharna which was put up by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on February 4.

Also other measures are being mulled as such as stripping them of medals which had been conferred on them for meritorious service. The Centre is also likely to remove names of the officers from empanelled list and bar them from a specific period of time from serving the Central government.

Sources said that the information of such instruction was passed on to Mamata Banerjee while she was in the middle of the inauguration of the fifth edition Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) and she looked visibly agitated. While members of the delegation from different countries spoke during the event on Thursday, state home secretary Atri Bhattacharya and chief secretary Malay De came up to her and all three of them were engaged in an animated discussion. On one occasion, the trio left the stage for some time.
