Residents from Vasant Vihar, Lok Puram and adjacent societies blame administration for rise in chain and vehicle theft cases in the area, as the allotted police station has not been functional in the area.

Residents from the area share that in past few weeks, there has been steep rise in chain snatching and vehicle theft cases and police officials merely give assurances that they are looking into the issue and will do something in regard.

K Kumar, president of Progressive Thane Residents Association (PTRA) informed, "We had taken up the issue two to three years ago and are ready to give space and bear the cost as well. In fact, sanction has also been given for the station, but it has not been made functional. Now, that the authorities have turned deaf ear to the issue, we are planning to protest about the same.

Kumar shared, "In last few days, three high-end cars have been stolen from plush societies and chain snatching incidents have also been reported. Though we have lodged complaints against the same but we feel that an operational police station might be a bigger deterrence for the criminals and would help in curbing the crime rate."

Vasant Vihar comes under Vartak Nagar jurisdiction, which is already over loaded and as population in the area has increased, there is an urgent need of police patrolling to curb crime. People feel that criminals are loaded with high-end gadgets to drive away with the car and police has been unable to do anything about this. All the officials are aware of the problem and despite our extended support, efforts have not been taken to erect and make it operational.

Nitin Bangale, senior inspector from Vartak Nagar confirmed about the vehicle theft and chain snatching cases and said that investigations on the cases are on. Meanwhile, when we spoke about the police station to additional CP of administration, Shivaji Bodhake, he shared, "The delay could be because of shortage of man power, as the demand has already been submitted to the government for sanctioning man power.

He further continued that he would instruct Vartak Nagar and Wagle Estate officials to increase patrolling in the area so that the residents don't have to suffer."
