Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has asked the Centre for assistance in tackling resurfacing terrorism alongside flagging issues like targeted killings and radicalisation of Punjabi youth based abroad.

During the 30-minute meeting with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the Punjab CM urged him to prepare a "all-encompassing strategy to counter the emerging extremism" in the state, after the Centre had informed a Parliamentary panel that Sikh youths were being trained at ISI facilities in Pakistan.

Apprising the Home Minister of the law and order situation in Punjab in the last one-and-a-half years, the CM suggested strengthening the intelligence apparatus. Amarinder Singh also demanded action against foreign handlers based in Canada, the UK, the US, Italy, Germany, who were actively engaged in revival of terrorism in Punjab.

Captain Amarinder also appreciated the support provided by Central agencies in probing the killings. The NIA is investigating these killings, suspected to be carried out as part of a conspiracy to disturb communal harmony in the state, an official from the Home Ministry said.

Rajnath Singh assured the CM of all possible assistance.

The Home Ministry had recently told a parliamentary panel that Sikh youths were being trained at ISI facilities in Pakistan to carry out terror activities in India.

Senior ministry officials also told the Committee on Estimates, headed by senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, that Sikh youths settled in Europe, the US and Canada were being "misguided and instigated against India with false and malicious propaganda".
