The tourism sector is currently observing the situation with regards to the Zika outbreak unfolding in Jaipur, even as organisations from countries abroad have started issuing advisories to their citizens. According to tourism officials, Canada-based International Association for Medical Assistance to Travellers has issued a travel advisory for visitors to Jaipur where all the cases have cropped up so far.

It mentions that there is an active Zika virus transmission in India. Cases have recently been reported from Jaipur, Rajasthan, the advisory says. "Take meticulous anti-mosquito bite measures during daytime. Pregnant travellers should postpone travel to this country," the advisory said.

The Zika outbreak has coincided with the new tourist season. This has got the tour operators in the cross-hairs of the vector-borne disease, which has now started to spread to other districts of the state as well.

"We are keeping our fingers crossed so far. There is no panic among tourists, but operators abroad have started asking questions about the virus," said a city-based tour operator.

With the wildlife parks now open to tourists after monsoon and Ranthambhore and Sariska parks already witnessing a good tourist turnout, the tourism industry is hoping the health department will be able to contain the spread of the disease.

"Those tourists who booked in advance haven't cancelled so far," a Jodhpur-based operator said.
