A bus was attacked near Ranip BRTS bus stand on Sunday night. Vadaj police have lodged a case of rioting against four individuals for pelting stones at the Himmatnagar ST bus. They are yet to confirm if the incident was connected to the ongoing Dalit protests.

The windows of the bus were shattered in the incident. A team of police officers rushed to the spot upon being informed about the attack, but the miscreants had fled by then. However, they managed to recover CCTV footage of the incident.

"Fortunately, there were no passengers inside the bus when the incident took place. We have recovered CCTV footage of the incident and also got some names during the primary investigation," said Inspector JA Rathava, Vadaj police station. "Right now, we believe that it was just a random act done by some local youth. Further investigation will reveal if it was connected to the Dalit protests or just a random act."

The incident took place on the same day when Dalit protesters set fire to vehicles and blocked roads in the area after their leader and MLA Jignesh Mevani was detained for alleged "misbehaviour" with cops. Mewani had appealed to the members of the community to gather for protesting the death of Dalit activist Bhanu Vankar on Friday. The activist had set himself on fire in the collectorate campus last week over a land allotment dispute with the government.
