One dead, 30 injured as bus carrying Mumbai doctors crashes in Ahmednagar

The group of 40 doctors were on their way to attend the Maharashtra Chapter of Association of Radiation Oncologist of India at Aurangabad from September 1.

At least one person died after a bus carrying doctors to a medical conference in Ahmednagar met with an accident. The deceased is the bus driver, while at least 30 of the passengers were injured. The passengers were mostly doctors employed with Tata Memorial Hospital in Navi Mumbai. The incident occurred on Kedgaon Bypass near Ahmednagar, when the bus collided with a container.

The driver died on the spot, and 30 injured doctors have been shifted to a nearby hospital. Three of the doctors are believed to be critical and being treated in in the intensive care ward due to head injuries and fractures. Other docs are believed to be in stable condition.

The group of 40 doctors were on their way to attend the Maharashtra Chapter of Association of Radiation Oncologist of India at Aurangabad from September 1.

A few of the doctors were from other hospitals like Fortis Hospital and other medical centres across the city. SH Jafri, Tata Memorial Hospital’s told DNA: “"They left by bus at 7.30 pm on Aug 31, 2018 from Mumbai. Near Ahmednagar around 3.30 – 4.00 am there was a sudden shock to everyone in the bus and then they realize that was an accident. As per the information received from the doctor on board, unfortunately the driver died at the site of accident, most of doctors have bruises/ laceration, three doctors had severe injury and the treatment is being offered at local hospital at Ahmednagar.”
