Burkha-clad militant masquerading as woman arrested in south Kashmir

A burkha-clad militant disguising as woman and armed with meat cleaver was arrested when the security forces intercepted a cab with suspected militants on board at the Bus Stand Pulwama in south Kashmir on Friday. Two civilians including a woman pedestrian were injured when the militants on board the cab opened fire to escape. However the cops and CRPF soldiers managed to overpower the burkha -lad militant before he could give slip along with his associates.

Identified as Tariq Ahmad, he was wearing a burkha and carrying a sharp meat cleaver underneath with an intention to carry out sensational attack in the Pulwama town.

Police said acting on specific tip off about the presence of militants, special operation group and troops of 182-battalion CRPF raided the bus stand Pulwama. "They saw some suspicious looking people along with a burqa clad women in a Tata Sumo. When the troops directed them to alight, they started indiscriminate firing and ran away from the spot," said a police spokesman at Pulwama.

Meanwhile Indian Army busted a militant hideout and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the mountainous Chapryian – Saujiyan forest in the Poonch district of Jammu division.

Acting on specific information the joint team of Gorkhas of 93 infantary brigade and local police launched a swift and surgical search operation and recovered AK-47 rifle, one 12 bore rifle, one Chinese, two Pakistan origin and one country made pistol, two Under Barrel Grenade launchers (UBGLs), two RPG boosters, one RCIED and five IEDs along with timers.

Besides, two Chinese grenades alongwith 47 rounds of AK riffe, 370 Pika rounds, six pistol rounds, two RPG rounds, two UBGL rounds, 10 AK–47 magazines, five pistol magazines, approximately 20 Kg explosives, 500 grams plastic explosive, cordtex safety fuse, firing cable, mobile phone, Battery, Binocular, Insulation tape and wireless system were also recovered from the spot.

"Recovery of such war like stores will prove detrimental to the revival of terrorism in the area and further strengthen the existing security grid. The recovery has indeed thwarted the evil designs of the militants," said SN Acharya, officiating defence spokesman at Jammu.
