The daughter of a woman burnt to death in Bulandshahr wrote a letter to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in her blood, seeking justice in the alleged murder case. When the letter made news, it prompted the police to reopen the case, Times of India reported.

15-year-old Latika and 11-year-old Tanya reportedly watched their mother being burnt to death after being set on fire by their father and uncle on June 14. The daily reported that the incident took place before the childrens' eyes and was because their mother was not able to give birth to a boy.

Latika alleged that Bulandshahr police had not arrested any other accused named in the FIR, barring their father Manoj Bansal, and had diluted the allegation in the FIR. The young girl had also said that she had been receiving death threats.

Since her letter to the CM, the two girls have been provided security at their uncle's house.

"I am glad that my voice is being heard now. After news of my letter broke, several senior police officers have come to my house to speak with me and my uncle. I now have hope that I will get justice for my mother," the 15-year-old told TOI.

Dharemendra Kumar Yadav, Bulandshahr's circle officer told the daily that they had decided not to treat the investigation as complete. The case was first being treated as  a suicide.
