Four months after he released a video of alleged "poor quality food" being served to the soldiers, Border Security Force (BSF) Constable Tej Bahadur Yadav was dismissed from services after the Summary Security Force Court (SSFC) found him guilty of indiscipline, insubordination and other charges.

On January 9, Yadav had uploaded videos on his Facebook page alleging they are being served poor-quality food and that they even have to go "empty stomach" at times. The constable showed the visuals of a half-burnt roti and dal in a container with a commentary that it was mere water mixed with turmeric and salt.

The video created a furore, prompting the BSF to order an inquiry into his allegations. Yadav of 29th Battalion posted on Line of Control (LoC) was immediately shifted and attached to the 80th Battalion of BSF in Jammu frontier.

Two months later in March, Yadav posted another video alleging "mental torture for exposing corruption" in the BSF. He asked the countrymen to urge the Prime Minister why he was being tortured and why his VRS (voluntary retirement scheme) had not been granted.

Four months on, SSFC found him guilty of levelling false allegations, indiscipline and insubordination. The SSFC commenced on April 13 and concluded on April 19. A BSF spokesman at Jammu frontier said during the proceedings all opportunities were given to the constable for his defence.

Under the provisions of BSF Act and Rules, the SSFC tried him on two major charges that included "an act prejudicial to good order and discipline of the force in which he made false allegations on social media regarding quality of food and did not adhere to formal grievance redressal mechanism of the force".

The second charge included "neglect to obey general orders of the force in which he carried two mobile phones while on operational duty against the SOP and also posted photographs in uniform on social media in contravention of instructions".

"The individual was found guilty of all the charges and awarded dismissal from service. As per the BSF Act and Rules, he can now submit a petition/ appeal against the punishment to the higher Headquarter within three months." said the BSF spokesman.

Hours later, Yadav's wife took to social media and posted a video message defending her husband and criticising the government for dismissing him after putting so much of service.

"He has been dismissed from service. He had taken the step in the interest of jawans. He showed the food to the country. Which mother will send her son to the armed forces now? What crime had he committed? Government should have sent him home honorably. Government did a very wrong thing," she said.
