The Bombay High Court on Wednesday adjourned by four weeks a petition filed by singer Ankit Tiwari, seeking quashing of a case of rape against him.

The petition came up for hearing before a bench of justices Ranjit More and Anuja Prabudessai which deferred it with mutual consent of the petitioner's lawyer and the prosecution. Tiwari, who sang the popular number 'Sun Raha Hai Na' in the Hindi movie 'Aashiqui 2', was arrested by the Versova police in May last year after a woman filed a rape complaint against him, after which the singer filed a petition through his advocate Ashok Saraogi, arguing that he is being framed in a false case.

According to the complainant, he allegedly raped her several times between October 2012 and December 2013 after promising to marry her. He broke his promise later, she said. The singer has contended that he has been framed and, hence the rape complaint should be quashed.

The police had also arrested Ankur Tiwari, who is his elder brother, for allegedly threatening the victim. Both the brothers are now out on bail.
