Search around and you will find tempting offers for those who will vote on Tuesday. There will be free meals, free rides, hefty discounts and what not. Just like all the political parties which are contesting these polls with an eye on the Rs 37,000-crore budget pie of Mumbai offering you moon to vote for them.

But when you vote on Tuesday (and we say you must), let these freebies or promises not cloud your judgment. Use your common sense and logic to elect who you think will best represent or mirror your concerns in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

Remember, you are voting to elect a corporator who is going to be responsible for clean potable water, good roads, ample open spaces, encroachment-free neighbourhood. You are not betting on a horse. Your vote is not money on winning or losing. It’s not a bet. It’s your right and exercise it with utmost sincerity. If you didn’t do it on Tuesday, remember what the Supreme Court said a couple of weeks ago: “If you don’t vote, you have no right to question or blame the government.”
