In yet another case of Blue Whale Challenge, a man allegedly attempted suicide by stabbing himself under the influence of the deadly online game in South Tripura district.
Santosh Debnath, a 26-year-old man allegedly attempted suicide at Banshpadua village about 100 km from Agartala on October 6.
"Debnath who is also a father of a two-year-old kid had attempted suicide by stabbing on his stomach with a knife," Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Belonia, Ratan Das told the news agency.
He is now admitted at Belonia hospital and undergoing treatment.
The police said that Debnath started playing the game 16-days before he stabbed himself and jumped into a pond.
Following his erratic behaviour, the victim's friend searched his mobile phone and found that he was playing the deadly game, police said.
In the last few months, the deadly online game has claimed several lives. Last month, a 12-year-old boy was found dead on railway tracks in Uttar Pradesh.
The Blue Whale Challenge is reportedly a suicide game in which the player is given certain tasks to complete over a period of 50 days and the final task leads him or her to commit suicide.
The player is also asked to share photos after finishing each challenge.
Admitting to being the driving factor behind the suicides of youngsters playing the game, Philipp Budeikin, who claims to have created the game, says that the victims were just ‘biological waste’.
"Victims were ‘happy to die’ and I am ‘cleansing society’," Budeikin told police when he was arrested in May this year.
A 17-year-old Russian girl has also been arrested by police for allegedly being the mastermind behind the Blue Whale Challenge, that encouraged players to commit suicide.
