Blast in AC ducts at BHU hospital, at least 12 injured

At least 12 persons were injured in a blast in the air-conditioning ducts at the emergency ward of Sir Sunder Lal Hospital at Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi on Saturday, police said.

About 12-15 persons were injured in a blast in the AC ducts at the emergency ward of BHU hospital this afternoon, Station Officer of Lanka Police Station Sanjiv Mishra said. Due to the blast, the false ceiling came down and window panes broke, causing injury to the patients and hospital staff present in the emergency ward. However, there was no outbreak of fire, Mishra said.

The injured were rushed to the trauma centre of BHU where their condition is stated to be stable. The site of the accident has been sealed, the SHO said, adding that probe is on to ascertain the cause of the blast.
