The presence of 'blanket worms' at a government run girls school today triggered a scare among students prompting teachers to seek the help of fire officials to clear the insects besides declaring a holiday.

Fire Services personnel cleared the school premises of the worms.

When the students of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School arrived today after a four-day holiday, they noticed blanket worms in and around the building walls and in the classrooms.

The insects had sneaked in from nearby trees.

They reported it to the teachers and the school personnel and teachers too noticed it.

"The school headmaster requested us to take action and a team of five personnel was deployed besides a mini-water tanker," Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services Station Officer S Muniyandi told
