Last week, when she spoke with her family from Dhaka, in the midst of her summer internship, Tarishi was excitedly making plans for a long due holiday with her parents. She was to leave with her father from Dhaka over the weekend, and then for a getaway with her brother and mother on Sunday.

Instead, on a rather overcast Monday, the Jains gathered at the Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi to receive her mortal remains. Inconsolable and distraught, many of her family and friends held on to each other for support before leaving for the Community Centre at Gurugram's Rajiv Chowk, in the presence of Haryana education minister Ram Bilas Sharma, Gurugram Deputy Commissioner TL Satyaprakash and others.

At the Community Centre, where her body was put on display for tributes to over an hour and a half, torn relatives were placated by Union power minister Piyush Goyal. A young relative said that most of the family had come down from Faisalabad for her cremation. Her brother, who was studying in Canada, had immediately flown down to Delhi after Tarishi made a distraught call from Holey Artisan Bakery on Saturday night.

"He went to Dhaka to help his father bring her back," said the relative.

Some of Tarishi's family recalled the call she made to her uncle while being stuck during the attack. "She told me that she can hear screams, and found refuge inside the toilet. She kept on saying that she and her friends will be next," said a teary-eyed Ramesh Jain.

AAP minister Kapil Mishra, AAP politician Naveen Jaihind, and DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal were present to pay their respects. Congress politician Raj Babbar, too was present to deliver a letter from Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

"I am deeply pained by the news. Incidents like these are shameful for the global community, and we must create an environment against people who display such ruthlessness,"the letter read. "I can imagine how hard it is for your family and friends to endure the loss, and I hope you will find the patience and strength."
