The Union Minister of State for Social Justice Ramdas Athavale, who was in Lucknow on a two-day visit, is learnt to have sent feelers to the BSP Supremo Mayawati for joining the NDA instead of forging an alliance with the Samajwadi Party ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The feelers were sent through a close confidant but the BSP Supremo has so far remained indifferent to the NDA offer. The messenger had also sought a meeting with the Union minister but there is no news from the BSP camp over the possibility of the two Dalit leaders holding talks.

Political observers claim that the BJP is under tremendous pressure after BSP and SP joined hands to defeat party candidates in Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha by-polls. It is making all-out effort to keep the two separated or make Mayawati join the NDA bandwagon.

“Samajwadi Party has already ditched the BSP during the Rajya Sabha polls by making its candidate Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar lose the Upper House berth. The BSP should learn its lessons from the past experience with the Samajwadi Party and join the NDA if Mayawati is serious about the welfare of Dalits,” said Athavale

The Republican Party of India Chief claimed that even if the entire opposition unites under the Congress, the NDA will return to power after 2019 Lok Sabha polls and Narendra Modi Ji will become the Prime Minister again.

“The BJP may lose about 20 to 25 seats in Uttar Pradesh due to BSP-SP alliance but it will make up its losses from other states. In politics, victory and defeat are part of the same coin. The formation of the Third Front will only help the NDA to gain and return to power,” claimed Athavale.

Athavale pointed that if Mayawati joins the NDA, together they can work for the welfare of Dalits in the country along with Ram Vilas Paswan ji. “The BJP will win 50 seats in Uttar Pradesh but it will make a clean sweep if Mayawati joins hands with the NDA in the interest of Dalit community,” he said.

The Union Minister lauded the decision of the Yogi Adityanath government to fix quota within quota for extending equal reservation benefits to most Dalits and MBCs. He rapped those playing politics on UP government’s decision to reinsert ‘Ramji’ in the middle of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar’s name.

“It is a tradition in Maharashtra to add father’s name in the middle. I don’t know why political parties are objecting to it and linking it to Prime Minister’s name. He also uses his father’s name in the middle,” fumed Athavale.

The Union Minister claimed that instead of playing politics on cases of atrocities against Dalits, all political parties and their leaders should encourage inter-caste marriages to make SC/ST join the mainstream society. “Majority cases of atrocities against dalits are reported from non-BJP ruled states,” he said.
