Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javedkar said on Friday that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would launch Mahasampark  -- door to door  -- programme to convert its members into  active workers shortly.

Speaking with media persons here, Minister Javedkar said the BJP has decided to convert the newly joined members into party workers. “We have decided to organise a training programme for more than 15 lakh newly joined members to train them in political activism. BJP national president Amit Shah will announce the roadmap for this purpose tomorrow,’’ Javedkar said.

He said that even after 70 years of Independence, there are 23 lakh manual scavengers in the country. “It is a shame for the country to have such a large number of manual scavengers even after 70 years of Independence. BJP workers will approach them to create awareness among them. We will enrol them as BJP workers. This is one of the non-political programmes of the BJP,’’ he said.

He said the BJP would launch a programme to sensitise men on the importance of protecting girls and providing them better education. “BJP workers will organise Swachch Bharat programmes to create awareness among the people on the importance of keeping their surroundings clean,’’ he said.

On the amendments to the Land Acquisition Bill, he said BJP has always been striving for the welfare of farmers. “Some people have misguided farmers on this issue. Now, the BJP-led government has decided to make some amendments to the Land Acquisition Bill. I want to make it clear that BJP is always for the welfare of farmers,’’ he said.

Coming down heavily on the JD(U) in Bihar for betraying the mandate of people by breaking the alliance with BJP, he said BJP would win majority of seats in the forthcoming Assembly polls in Bihar. “We are confident of success in Bihar. Opposition parties, especially Congress, are desperate. Congress leaders are  always raising non-issues. My advice to Congress leaders is instead of raising non-issues, they should allot more time to find out whereabouts of Rahul Gandhi,’’ he said.

On political atmosphere in Kerala, he said the BJP got 14 lakh votes in Lok Sabha elections now there were more than 20 lakh BJP members in Kerala. “If anyone is thinking that present government led by Congress will continue in Kerala, he/she is mistaken. We are confident of making some significant gains in Kerala,’’ he said.

He also expressed confidence of  BJP reaching 10-crore mark of enrolment of workers.
