The Uttar Pradesh government is run by six chief ministers, BJP president Amit Shah said here on Tuesday, in the same breath accusing the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) of encouraging goondaism and land grabbing.

Referring to the recent Mathura incident, Shah said the BJP will launch a campaign to prevent land-grabbing in the state. "We will advertise an email ID tomorrow itself and whoever complains we will take up their case," he asserted, alleging that lumpen elements patronised by the SP were grabbing land all over the state.

He did not take names while talking about six CMs, but his allusion was to the relatives of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav including uncles who are part of his government and his father, SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Shah squarely blamed the SP for last week's bloody clashes in Mathuraover a cult that had illegally occupied a large public park. Two police officers were among the 28 who died.

Opposition parties have alleged that the leader of the cult founded by one Baba Jai Gurudev had close links with the ruling Yadav clan in UP which had helped him retain illegal possession of the 270-acre Jawahar Bagh in Mathura for over two years along with about 3,000 squatters.

Amit Shah has demanded that SP minister and the CM's uncle Shivpal Yadav should resign. He had alleged that the minister had been supporting the cult leader and had helped him keep possession of the public park.

Shivpal Yadav has said the BJP must offer evidence of its charges or apologise to him.

Over 1,000 policemen who entered the Jawahar Bagh on Thursday evening were easily over-run by cult members, a large number of whom were armed with grenades, sophisticated automatic weapons and swords. Its chief, Ram Vriksh Yadav, died in the violence, the police have said.
