Amit Shah will remain the BJP president till polls conclude in the electorally important states of Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand and Delhi.

Not satisfied with party's superlative performance of bagging a record 303 seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, Union Home Minister Shah told the officer-bearers on Thursday that the BJP has not achieved its peak yet, and it is incumbent upon them to strengthen the party in regions like Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh.

Briefing media after the first day of the three-day mega meeting of party's national and state office-bearers, BJP general secretary Bhupendra Yadav said, "Amit Shah told the office-bearers to get ready to increase the party's membership by conducting a drive, which is done every three years."

BJP boasts of being the largest political party in the world with 11 crore members. Yadav said it was decided in the meeting to make former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan the convener of the membership drive, along with four co-conveners: Dushyant Gautam from Delhi, Arun Chaturvedi from Rajasthan, Suresh Pujari from Odisha and Sobha Surendran from Kerala.

"The team will thrash out details of the drive with state conveners," said Yadav, adding the party wants to increase membership by 20%.

He said there was no discussion on change in leadership, which will only happen after the organisational elections and the membership drive, which will be discussed in the next two days.

Addressing the meeting, Shah thanked crores of party workers for the stunning Lok Sabha polls victory. "He attributed it to the efforts of party workers," Yadav said.
