A function to felicitate the senior legislators of Rajasthan was organised by the Sunder Singh Bhandari Charitable Trust on Monday. The event was held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.

A total of nine legislators were felicitated for their long tenure as MLAs. These included Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. Raje was also the chief guest at the programme.

What was striking about the programme was that senior, albeit disgruntled, legislator Ghanshyam Tiwari refused to be felicitated. He even wrote a letter to the organisers and said that he would not come and be felicitated at the function where Raje was presiding as chief guest. He wrote he would not share the dias with her and recieve the same award as her.

Tiwari gave a long explanation that he also put up in public domain. In the letter he had written, Tiwari said that the Chief Minister had been personally vindictive towards him and his family when he raised the issues of corruption against her. He also raised the issue of the Ordinance that is creating so much ruffle in Rajasthan and said it was against democratic values, which is another reason why he would not attend the felicitation.

Speaking at the function, Chief Minister Raje and Assembly Speaker Kailash Meghwal expressed concern about the unruly incidents that took place in the State Assembly on Monday.

Meghwal said that the Lok Sabha and the Assembly on Monday became ruckus houses. The problem must be solved by all the parties. Raje said that sometimes a ruckus is created to tow party lines, but these should not get personal.

Those who were felicitated include — Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje (5 times MP, 4 times MLA), Nathu Singh Gurjar (1 time MP, 5 times MLA), Mahadev Singh Khandela (1 time MP, 5 times MLA), Krishnendra Kaur Deepa (1 time MP, 5 times MLA, Digvijay Singh Uniyara (6 times MLA), Bhanwarlal Sharma Sardarshahar (6 times MLA), Rajendra Rathore (6 times MLA), Bhanwarlal Sharma Hawamahal (6 times MLA) ) And Kali Charan Saraf (6-times MLA) was felicitated. Trust chairman Gulabchand Kataria highlighted the life of Shekhawat and Bhandari and shared their associated experiences.
